‘’This anniversary consolidates the Theory of Change that we have been building for many years, at a time when we understand the fundamental role of gaining scale by supporting, investing and financing the development of other institutions and other actors that are fundamental to consolidate the business ecosystem sustainable developments in the Amazon” – Mariano Cenamo, co-founder and Director of New Business at Idesam and CEO of AMAZ Acceladora de Impacto. ’’

As the first partner, WWF was the first financier of Idesam in the construction of the RDS Do Uatumã Management Plan. “Together, the two organizations have already acted in the conservation of protected areas, in the fight against deforestation and in the promotion of sustainable production chains, they worked on fighting fires in the Amazon and on the Covid-19 emergency. We hope that, in the future, this partnership will be strengthened and that other projects are to come”, extols Edegar de Oliveira Rosa, Director of Ecosystem Conservation and Restoration at WWF-Brazil.

Impacts and challengs

And in this scenario of efforts to contain the damage caused by the constant losses in the Amazon biome, with illegal deforestation and social inequality, Idesam has intensified concrete actions, through initiatives that connect solutions to the actors in value chains, pointing out paths sustainable and innovative solutions for environmental conservation and poverty reduction.

‘’ The ‘coming of age’ anniversary for Idesam is quite significant, as we have reached the age of 18 with a strong institutional maturity, improving our way of acting to generate more and better positive impact actions for the Amazon, based on a consistent Theory of Change, backed by a history of implementing ‘know-how’ in the Amazon with responsibility and engagement” – Carlos Gabriel Koury, Director of Innovation in Bioeconomy at Idesam.

The last two years have been challenging on a global scale with the advent of the damage caused by Covid-19. ‘’I understand that the Amazon cannot repudiate effective organizations such as IDESAM, which over almost two decades of existence, insists on doing things differently in the inclusive socio-environmental agenda. Hence the public recognition of society and its peers, for the sense of urgency and the unavoidable, without compromising the quality of everything it does. This is IDESAM. Proud of the beneficiaries of the Amazon” – Neliton Marques, Idesam Board of Directors.’’

In addition to a positioning with more consistent impacts, Idesam has grown in its governance and management practices, which directly impacts delivery and results with the communities and families served. With the expertise acquired in the territories, the challenges in the organization of value chains reinforce the purpose of a work that will be even more massive in the work with these families and, consequently, in the collective execution, in the formalization of groups, in addition to the strengthening of the agenda.

“Idesam is within the Uatumã RDS helping to make our dreams come true. When I say that today the reserve has a management plan, a mini plant for vegetable oils and a furniture factory sending our parts to Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and the rest of Brazil, it was Idesam that gave this ‘kick to the ball’. In addition to being our partner since the beginning with training and technical support, he has brought us closer to other institutions”, highlights Elizângela Cavalcante, community and furniture company from RDS do Uatumã.
