transparency

We are a non-governmental organisation based in the Brazilian Amazon, recognised for two consecutive years on the list of Brazil’s best NGOs, and by the Social Entrepreneur Award from Folha de SP and the Schwab Foundation. With 20 years of experience, our purpose is to promote a new inclusive and sustainable economy in the Amazon, forging links with stakeholders across its value chains and identifying innovative new approaches to conservation and the reduction of inequality.

Independent audit

In its 20 years of operation in the Amazon, Idesam’s articles of association stipulate that its accounts must undergo a mandatory independent audit annually. This practice ensures validation and compliance with current accounting standards, best practices in the management and use of resources, and adherence to funders’ rules, thereby promoting transparency in financial and accounting management. In addition, we undergo various other inspection processes and specific audits of projects, programmes and initiatives. In line with best practice, Idesam rotates its independent auditors, always engaging firms of impeccable reputation such as KPMG, Baker Tilly and BDO. Since 2024, the independent audit has been carried out by the Audisa Group, which has over 25 years’ experience working with third sector organisations.

Awards for transparency

By strengthening our transparency and governance measures, we have also achieved ‘Transparency and Good Social Practices’ certification, awarded by Phomenta, the institution representing Brazil on the International Committee of Fundraising Organisations (ICFO), which monitors CSOs worldwide (ICFO – International Committee on Fundraising Organisations). Obtaining the seal was the result of a lengthy process of analysis covering around 40 criteria across five pillars: Legal, Financial, Management and Governance, Impact Potential, and Communication and Transparency, in which we met all the necessary parameters for certification.
