Idesam’s work is guided by the Theory of Change, which aims to tackle the loss of forests caused by illegal deforestation in the Amazon, as well as the social inequality resulting from a development model that remains unsustainable. This scenario perpetuates the cycle of poverty, intensifies negative environmental impacts and generates consequences that affect not only the region, but also the economy of the entire country.
Our purpose is set out in our Theory of Change: to promote a new inclusive and sustainable economy in the Amazon, forging links with stakeholders across its value chains and charting innovative new paths towards conservation and poverty reduction.
In light of this, our activities and stories need to be highlighted and linked to Idesam’s impact. Thus, the impact indicators reflect the socio-environmental transformation promoted in the areas where we operate.
The impact we aim to generate in sustainable value chains in the Amazon:

to improve the population’s quality of life

for socio-economic development

for environmental conservation

to mitigate and adapt to climate change

Adding value to products from Amazonian socio-biodiversity

Attracting and managing financial resources to promote sustainable value chains

Strengthening the partner network

Knowledge management and transfer
To monitor and report on our impacts, we use the institutional tool MAGIA (My Action Generates Impact in the Amazon), which records all of Idesam’s impact results annually, in line with the 2022–2026 Theory of Change.
In this way, we ensure that our indicators are measurable, transparent and reliable, whilst also demonstrating the comprehensive management of our projects through the Strategic Initiatives.
This application is integrated with Microsoft’s Business Intelligence (BI) software and was developed in-house by the Idesam team and specialist consultants with a view to managing and communicating Idesam’s positive social and environmental impact.
