“A Goal for the Amazon” campaign

The largest tropical rainforest on the planet has been suffering from increasing deforestation and fires in recent times. According to data from the Deforestation Alert System (SAD)/Imazon, from January to September, the area of Amazon rainforest cleared reached 9,069 km², which is almost eight times the size of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

And why must we respect the forest?

The Amazon gives us air and rain. It gives us food. It helps combat the effects of the climate emergency on the planet simply by standing tall. It offers unrivalled biological diversity. It gives us ancestral knowledge that connects us to its richness and conservation. Unique flavours and crafts. It gives us life.

Given the excitement surrounding the World Cup and the fact that football is a national passion, we want to raise public awareness of the importance of conserving the Amazon. Help us look after our forest by changing this score.

Partnerships established

With the support of partners and individuals, Idesam has secured a large number of donations, which came in various forms and were channelled into donations for the people benefiting from this initiative.

The campaign’s official donation page is at doe.idesam.org, running from 21 November to 18 December, the same period as the 2022 FIFA World Cup. By the end of the campaign, R$66,111.17 had been raised, enabling the planting of 1,653 native tree saplings, supporting the restoration of 1.5 football pitches (at a unit cost of R$40).

In partnership with the concessionaires of Salvador Airport and the Amazon Airports, which are part of the VINCI Airports network, Idesam received support for promoting the campaign at the network’s eight airports on 24 November – Salvador, Manaus, Tefé, Tabatinga, Rio Branco, Boa Vista, Porto Velho, Cruzeiro do Sul

The ERM Foundation donated funds to the campaign on 30 November, following an internal initiative with employees via e-Card.

Results (Goals)

With the donations, we will support 10 families (around 50 people) in the municipalities of Apuí and RDS do Uatumã, boosting their monthly income and providing technical training, as well as offsetting more than 2,450 tonnes of CO² (for 7 hectares).
