Idesam’s Theory of Change (ToC) is based on the following problem:

The loss of forests due to illegal deforestation in the Amazon and social inequality, combined with a development model for the Amazon that perpetuates unsustainable practices and reinforces the cycle of poverty and negative environmental impacts, affecting the economy of the entire country.

Thus, our purpose, as defined by the ToC, is to promote a new inclusive and sustainable economy in the Amazon, creating connections with actors in its value chains and pointing towards new innovative paths for conservation and poverty reduction.

The impact we aim to generate in sustainable value chains in the Amazon:

to improve the population’s quality of life
for socio-economic development
for environmental conservation
to mitigate and adapt to climate change

To this end, Idesam is implementing four strategies:

Adding value to products from Amazonian socio-biodiversity
Attracting and managing financial resources to promote sustainable value chains
Strengthening the partner network
Knowledge management and transfer

In light of this, activities and stories need to be highlighted and linked to Idesam’s impact; thus, impact indicators guide and direct our goals and evaluation, as well as socio-environmental transformation in the territories where we operate.

To monitor and report on our impacts, we use the institutional tool MAGIA (My Action Generates Impact in the Amazon), which allows us to record results. The aim is to centralise information and record Idesam’s impacts in a unified manner, in line with its Theory of Change 2022–2026.

This application is integrated with Microsoft’s Business Intelligence (BI) software and was developed in-house by the Idesam team and specialist consultants with a view to managing and communicating Idesam’s positive social and environmental impact.

In this way, we ensure that our indicators are measurable, transparent and reliable, whilst also demonstrating the comprehensive management of our projects through Strategic Initiatives.

The dashboard is updated annually.
