Charity Regatão - Seca AM

The traditional communities of the Amazon, true guardians of the forest who depend on its resources for their livelihood, are facing increased vulnerability due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. With various projects in over 10 municipalities in Amazonas, Idesam is intimately familiar with this challenging reality, which is why it is launching the ‘Regatão do Bem’ social initiative to help deliver food supplies to families at risk.

The campaign aims to collect food for families in the most remote areas of the Amazon, such as communities in the interior of Lábrea and Apuí, who live mainly from sustainable extractivism and have seen their sources of income affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. To this end, Idesam is mobilising digital influencers, institutional partners and companies to collect donations of food and other essential items for these communities.

Using funds from the Aliança Guaraná de Maués project, the Idesam team facilitated the purchase of 100 litres of alcohol and a further 200 items, including boxes of gloves, washing-up liquid and bleach, which were distributed to the population of Maués and local healthcare facilities;

Using its own administrative funds, Idesam also financed the purchase of 55 food parcels and 55 hygiene kits, which were distributed through the campaign.
