The Madeira and Purus rivers, which flow through much of the south-west Amazon, define the Madeira-Purus Interfluve – a region where the rich interaction between local populations and the forest has given rise to unique socio-biodiversity and forms of social organisation. The information generated in this territory is crucial for the conservation and promotion of the well-being of its communities.
To strengthen the potential of this region, Idesam, with the support of the Betty and Gordon Moore Foundation, presents the Sociobiodiversity Networks Panel in the Madeira-Purus Interfluve. This interactive platform was developed to map and raise the profile of socio-productive organisations – such as associations, cooperatives, collectives and companies – that work with socio-biodiversity value networks in 11 of the municipalities that make up the Interflúvio: Autazes, Beruri, Borba, Canutama, Careiro, Careiro da Várzea, Humaitá, Lábrea, Manaquiri, Manicoré and Tapauá.
With an open and dynamic database, the dashboard brings together strategic information on governance, production, marketing, infrastructure, challenges and opportunities for these organisations, offering different forms of interaction and filters that support territorial intelligence and decision-making. As well as serving as a public data repository and digital portfolio for the organisations, the platform aims to strengthen collaborative networks, attract investment, foster partnerships and connect government and non-governmental institutions and private initiatives to the vast potential of the regional socio-bioeconomy.
