territorial governance

Communities that are well-prepared are more engaged in production and in activities relating to transparency and shared management

I want to get involved

Strengthening community autonomy requires a management model that seeks to balance environmental conservation, the sustainable use of natural resources and socio-economic development. This process involves the active participation of indigenous peoples, riverine communities, producers and institutions in decision-making regarding the territory, ensuring the responsible use of ecosystems.

With efficient governance, it is possible to prevent land conflicts, curb deforestation and promote public policies that benefit both the environment and the population. In this way, territorial governance becomes an indispensable tool for the protection of the Amazon and for the sustainable development of the region.

Idesam works on this issue to influence and promote sustainable public policies, by establishing local forums for dialogue and planning, conducting studies and analyses, participating in forums and advisory bodies, and strengthening social organisations by providing them with training in organisational management. These actions lead to the establishment of socio-biodiversity networks.

As guardians of the forest, indigenous peoples, traditional communities, quilombolas and smallholder farmers play an essential role in its conservation. Investing in a new development model for the region means not only preserving biodiversity, but also ensuring strong and resilient territories where the forest and its inhabitants thrive together.
